In its early years, Barrington was a farming community, mainly producing grains and fruit from the many orchards. Later, in the mid 1800's, Barrington became known for its brick production after enormous clay deposits were found by Brickyard Pond. The clay deposits began to disappear around the start of the 20th century, and production of bricks had stopped by around 1930. During the 20th century, Barrington continued to become more developed, as shopping malls opened, schools were constucted, churches were built, and the town recieved a police force and fire department.
